Virgin Voyages RockStar and Mega RockStar Quarters, what you really get and whether the upgrade is worth it

RockStar and Mega RockStar Quarters are where Virgin Voyages moves from stylish cruise accommodation into something far more suite-led and experience-led. That sounds straightforward, but this is exactly where expensive assumptions can creep in. People hear suite, Rooftop, Agent, premium drinks and VIP handling, then assume the value works the same way as it does on other cruise lines. It does not.

As an award-winning, Gold-Rated Virgin Voyages First Mate, I help Sailors compare the booking properly, not emotionally. Sometimes RockStar is exactly the right call. Sometimes Mega RockStar is worth it. And sometimes the stronger move is not to spend more on the cabin at all, but to book the sailing as a full package with flights, hotel stays and transfers included, because the overall trip value comes out better that way.

This page breaks down what RockStar includes, what Mega RockStar adds, how the drinks rules really work, what Richard’s Rooftop actually changes, who each level suits best, and why booking as a package can often save you money compared with trying to put it together separately yourself for most travellers who are not using points flights. If you have seen something you like, message Daniel and see what sparkle he can add to your package.

Before you commit to a cabin-only booking, let Daniel compare it against package options such as a fully protected package with flights, hotels, private transfers and the cruise all built properly around your trip.

In many cases, booking as a package can come out better value than trying to arrange everything separately yourself, especially if you are not using points flights.

What are RockStar Quarters on Virgin Voyages?

RockStar Quarters are Virgin Voyages’ suite category. They sit above the standard cabin range and combine more space, stronger service and more access-led perks. Virgin ties RockStar to Richard’s Rooftop access, RockStar Agent support, a stocked in-room bar with the first round on the house, and early access to bookable experiences.

In practice, that means a smoother embarkation rhythm, easier suite-level handling, a more elevated room experience and access to spaces that standard cabins do not get. If you only want a nicer room and do not care about the lifestyle side of it, the value can shift very quickly.

Want to know quickly whether RockStar will genuinely improve your trip or whether a protected package will give you more overall value? Send Daniel the sailing you are considering and get a proper comparison before you commit.

RockStar versus Mega RockStar, what is the actual difference?

The simplest way to think about it is this. RockStar gives you the suite lifestyle. Mega RockStar gives you the suite lifestyle pushed further into actual ship-wide privilege. You still get the strong room product in both, but Mega starts to reshape how you drink, how you unwind, and how much of the ship feels friction-free throughout the voyage.

RockStar includes the stocked in-room bar, RockStar Agent support, Richard’s Rooftop access, suite-level comfort and early access to bookable experiences. Mega RockStar includes those same foundations, but adds a bottomless in-room bar stocked by request, complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks around the ship up to Virgin’s stated limit, two daily bottles of wine per cabin up to the stated cap, daily Thermal Suite access, and additional premium handling.

That is why Mega RockStar is usually where standard add-ons like Bar Tab, spa access and even some transfer assumptions need to be rethought. If your cabin already changes the drinks and wellness equation this much, carrying over standard cabin budgeting habits can become surprisingly wasteful.

The real difference is not simply a better suite. It is how much of the ship starts to feel like part of the suite experience once you step into Mega RockStar.

Daniel’s RockStar Beating Packages

Book as a package and save with a fully protected package that can often cost less than trying to build it separately yourself

For most travellers who are not using points flights, Daniel’s protected Virgin Voyages packages can often work out better value than booking the cruise, flights, hotel and transfers separately yourself. The smartest luxury booking is not always about taking the biggest suite. It is about making the whole trip work harder for your money.

Daniel’s RockStar Beating Packages Book as a package and save • fully protected • often better value than piecing it together separately yourself

What Daniel can build into the package

  • Flights, often with low deposits (excluding low cost airlines)
  • Smart hotels in the right area for your sailing
  • Pre and post stay accommodation
  • Private transfers
  • Your Virgin Voyages cruise
  • ATOL and TTA financial protection where applicable
  • MNVV compatibility on select packages

Why this can be the stronger choice

  • Better overall holiday value
  • Low deposits on many air-inclusive package options
  • Less risk of hidden trip costs creeping in later
  • Smarter routing and better hotel choices
  • One protected trip instead of separate moving parts
  • Luxury feel without wasting budget in the wrong place
What this means for you

If your goal is the best overall Virgin Voyages trip, the strongest answer is often a properly built package rather than booking the cabin alone and adding everything around it yourself afterwards.

  • You arrange transfers separately
  • Total trip cost is often less visible at the start
  • Protection depends on how each part is booked

Daniel’s protected package approach

  • Flights can be included, often with low deposits (excluding low cost airlines)
  • Smart hotels chosen in the right area for the sailing
  • Pre and post stay accommodation can be added
  • Private transfers can be built in
  • ATOL and TTA protection where applicable
  • Often better overall value than putting it together separately yourself

RockStar and Mega RockStar benefits compared properly

This is the cleanest way to judge where the value sits. Not every benefit matters to every traveller, so read this as a practical comparison rather than a generic luxury wish list.

Feature RockStar Quarters Mega RockStar Quarters Daniel’s planning take
Richard’s Rooftop access Yes Yes One of the clearest lifestyle upgrades versus standard cabins. Great for quieter deck time and a stronger suite-led atmosphere.
RockStar Agent support Yes Yes, with a more personalised feel Most valuable for travellers who care about ease, support and less self-management onboard.
In-room bar Stocked in-room bar with select first round on the house Bottomless in-room bar, stocked by request This is where the suite experience starts to split in a meaningful way.
Complimentary drinks around the ship No ship-wide daily drinks inclusion in the Mega sense Yes, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks up to $25 each One of the strongest reasons Mega RockStar changes the total value equation.
Wine allowance No daily Mega-style wine allowance Two bottles of wine per day per cabin up to $90 each Important if wine is part of how you holiday and part of what you would otherwise buy anyway.
Thermal Suite access Not included daily Daily Thermal Suite access included Excellent value if you would otherwise pay for spa access separately.
Port transportation Not a standard included feature on its own Complimentary transport to and from port is part of the Mega experience where offered Helpful, though usually not the main reason to choose Mega RockStar.
Suite location and scale Strong suite choices across the ship Prime locations and the most exclusive spaces This matters most to travellers who genuinely use their suite as part of the holiday, not just a place to sleep.

If you are comparing pure money value, RockStar is easier to justify when the suite feel and Rooftop access matter most. Mega RockStar only really starts to make sense when you know the drinks, wellness and more personalised handling will materially change your holiday.

How the drinks perks really work in RockStar and Mega RockStar

This is where a lot of misinformation lives. RockStar and Mega RockStar do not handle drinks in the same way, and you should not budget for them in the same way either. RockStar includes a stocked in-room bar and a select first round of beverages on the house. Mega RockStar goes much further and includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks around the ship up to $25 each, plus two bottles of wine per day per cabin up to $90 each.

Beyond those thresholds, Virgin Voyages states that Mega RockStar Sailors receive 25% off drinks priced above the per-drink limit and 25% off additional bottles or bottles priced above the stated wine cap. That means Mega RockStar is generous, but it is not a completely unlimited no-thought-needed drinks universe.

This matters because adding a large Bar Tab to a Mega RockStar sailing can be unnecessary if you have not thought through how much of your normal spend is already being covered. On a regular RockStar booking, though, the answer can be very different. That is why I always tell clients to put this page next to the Bar Tab guide, what gets used first, and the drinks budget guide.

The most common suite budgeting mistake is treating RockStar and Mega RockStar as if they have the same drinks logic. They do not.

What Richard’s Rooftop actually adds to the experience

Richard’s Rooftop is one of the most recognisable RockStar perks, but it is worth understanding it properly. It is not just another deck. It is a members-only suite space that changes how the ship feels if you are the kind of traveller who values quieter deck time, stronger atmosphere and a more private place to ease in and out of the day.

For some Sailors, that makes RockStar immediately feel more distinct from a Sea Terrace booking. For others, especially people who spend very little time in calmer upper-deck spaces, it matters far less than they expect. This is one of the best examples of a perk that only has value if your holiday style actually matches it.

If your perfect cruise day includes a calmer deck space, a better pre-dinner atmosphere and less crowd energy, Richard’s Rooftop can be one of the suite perks you feel the most.

Who should book RockStar Quarters?

RockStar tends to suit travellers who want the suite feel but do not necessarily need the full drinks-and-spa-heavy handling of Mega. That usually means people who value a better room, better deck access, stronger service and a more premium rhythm, but still want to stay aware of what they spend around the ship.

  • Couples who want a more elevated cabin experience without jumping to the top pricing tier
  • Sailors who value Rooftop access and suite atmosphere more than ship-wide drinks inclusion
  • Travellers who still want spending flexibility on drinks, spa and port days
  • People who will genuinely use the room and terrace as part of the holiday, not just sleep there

↑ Back to quick answers

Who should book Mega RockStar Quarters?

Mega RockStar is for people who want the suite category to influence the whole holiday, not just the room. If you want your cabin, your drinks, your spa access, your support level and your deck experience all to come from one top-tier booking decision, this is where Mega starts to make sense.

  • Sailors who would otherwise spend heavily on drinks and wellness during the voyage
  • Travellers who value convenience very highly and want less friction across the trip
  • People who use the suite as part of the holiday itself, not just a base
  • Longer-voyage travellers who can really feel the benefit of laundry, spa access and premium service touches

Mega RockStar is strongest when the extra spend you would normally do elsewhere is already part of how you holiday. If it is not, you can end up overbuying the lifestyle.

When the suite upgrade may not be worth it

RockStar and Mega RockStar are not automatically the best choice just because you can book them. If you barely use the room, prefer spending on ports, are not especially interested in Rooftop access, and would not naturally use the drinks or spa benefits at Mega level, the value can thin out quickly.

Equally, if you are trying to use Mega RockStar as a way of making the cruise feel luxury without matching the way you actually holiday, it can become an expensive answer to the wrong question. Sometimes a strong Sea Terrace, a protected package, the right Bar Tab plan, or simply a more balanced budget lane works better.

If you want to avoid buying the wrong kind of luxury, send Daniel the voyage you are looking at and get a proper recommendation before you commit.

How to decide properly before you book

This is the framework I use with clients who are trying to decide whether RockStar or Mega RockStar is genuinely the right answer.

  1. Start with your holiday style. Do you really use the room, the terrace and quieter upper-deck spaces, or are you mostly elsewhere on the ship?
  2. Be honest about your drinks behaviour. Mega only makes real sense if the drinks structure will genuinely change your trip.
  3. Think about spa value properly. Daily Thermal Suite access only matters if you will actually use it.
  4. Compare the upgrade against alternatives. A stronger standard cabin booking plus smarter add-ons can sometimes outperform a suite.
  5. Look at the whole budget. Flights, hotel nights, gratuities, Shore Things and spending style still matter more than the suite label alone.

Want this worked out against your dates, airport choices, pre-cruise hotel options and full holiday budget? That is exactly what Daniel’s package planning is for.

FAQs: RockStar and Mega RockStar Quarters on Virgin Voyages

What is included in Virgin Voyages RockStar Quarters?

RockStar Quarters include suite accommodation, RockStar Agent support, access to Richard’s Rooftop, a stocked in-room bar with the first round on the house, and early access to bookable experiences.

What is included in Mega RockStar that RockStar does not get?

Mega RockStar adds a bottomless in-room bar stocked by request, complimentary drinks around the ship up to Virgin’s stated thresholds, two daily bottles of wine per cabin up to the stated cap, daily Thermal Suite access, and wider premium handling.

Do Mega RockStar Sailors still need Bar Tab?

Often far less than standard Sailors do. Because Mega RockStar already changes the drinks equation so much, many travellers do not need to preload Bar Tab in the same way. It depends on what you actually drink.

Is Richard’s Rooftop worth it?

It can be, especially if you value quieter upper-deck atmosphere, a more exclusive outdoor space and a stronger suite-led rhythm during the voyage. If you barely use spaces like that, it may matter less than you expect.

Are RockStar Quarters worth it on Virgin Voyages?

They can be, but only if you want the suite experience for more than just the room size. RockStar is strongest when you value the service, Rooftop access and suite atmosphere. Mega RockStar is strongest when you would otherwise spend heavily on drinks and wellness anyway.

Could Daniel’s package be better value than going straight for RockStar?

Very often, yes. Depending on your departure point, flights, hotel needs and transfer costs, Daniel’s protected Virgin Voyages packages can outperform a simple cabin-only upgrade and create a better overall trip for the money.
